Understanding Torah Society
Walking By Faith
Question and Answer
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Mashiach,
This week we begin our new teaching series - Understanding Torah Society.  This will be an exciting study which I am certain will generate many questions.  Don't forget to send those questions in so we can include them in the news letter.

We have a question on doctrine and the Statement of Faith this week below.  Also below, is a study that was supposed to be sent out in the first week in March, but with all the crashes, it never happened.  It was up on the website, so you may have already had a chance to read it.  If not, here it is for you to enjoy.

The full teachings will never appear in the new format of this newsletter.  However, they can be read on-line by simply following the link at the end of the articles.  There will also be a link to the PDF version if you would like to download the article.
Understanding Torah Society

society

One question that seems to arise in nearly any discussion of Torah communal living is what type of structure, i.e., what type of government, is called for according to Scripture. Please consider what Mike Donnelly, an attorney with Home School Legal Defense Association, has to say about government and society: "State and society are not necessarily - in fact are not usually - synonymous. Indeed, a government's interest in expanding its power may very well be at odds with the people's interest in freedom."[1] Surprising as it may seem, the respective government of any given society is nearly always at odds with, or in opposition to, the society which it governs. This is true whether one is discussing a political (state) government or some type of religious government. A respective government and society may not begin this way, i.e., be at odds with one another, but given enough time the government will become an entity unto itself wholly separate from the society which it governs. When this happens the government becomes a society unto itself. Thus, the governmental society will see the society-at-large as a threat and attempt to regulate it to its own end, attempting to make the society-at-large its slave.

Seeing that society and government are not synonymous may be such a new concept to many that it may take some serious contemplation to see the validity of this position. However, once one does see it, then one can begin to grasp what one finds in the Torah for a Torah based society, which in fact does not call for any government at all. What? We will make every attempt to thoroughly examine this question and show that a society based solely upon Torah does not need any government, yea, cannot have any government to function properly. That is, government in the common human sense of understanding.

Zecharyah (Zechariah) 4:6
Then he answered and spoke to me, saying, "This is the word of YHWH to Zerubbabel, saying, 'Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit,' says YHWH Tzava'ot."

This word that came through the prophet Zecharyah was for Zerubbabel, who was then governor of Judea and Jerusalem.  He was in charge of the rebuilding of the temple at that time, as we see alluded to in this chapter.  YHWH specifies that this work that Zerubbabel had set his hand to do for YHWH, would be accomplished, but it would not be accomplished by mere human effort and wisdom.  Rather, the completion of this task would be brought about by, and through, the Spirit of YHWH.  No other agency would suffice to bring this marvelous work to its completion.

This same message still resounds to us in our day as we face something so devastating that many look on with the greatest of fear.  As previous generations have experienced pogroms and various holocausts, so we also, are on the threshold of facing another holocaust.  If we are to make it through this time in prophetic history alive, then we need something only YHWH can give to us.  Each person needs to be filled with His Spirit.  Then each individual needs to learn how to walk in that Spirit in love and obedience, and not in fear of what is coming upon the whole world.

Q and A

Dear Zerubbabel,

I found your "Statement of Faith" page interesting and insightful.  No doubt, such statements have been used exclusively.  Here's my question:  Cannot the same thing be said for doctrine (i.e., teaching)?  Isn't the scripture itself exclusive?

Sincerely,  L_______

It is interesting to note, that in Scripture, the places where the word "doctrine" occurs should actually read "teaching" instead.  To me, there is a vast difference between a teaching and a doctrine.  I write teachings, but I do not write doctrine.  If someone uses (misuses) what I have written for doctrine, then that is upon them.  From my perspective, doctrine is wrong and should not be used by a true follower of Mashiach (Messiah). Please consider the following.
